Feeling Lost in your life?  Find ‘How’ to meet the ’real me’.

We can easily lose ourselves in our hectic daily life and forget what life means to us, even who we are. To escape this helplessness, experts recommend defining yourself, your long-term career goal, and setting action plans to juice up your life. It can give you motivation to live a fuller, more fulfilling, active and satisfying life with a broader perspective and even retune your lifestyle towards what you want to be.

However, here is a bitter challenge. How can you describe yourself, and further your goal to achieve within your lifetime? In characterizing oneself, people tend to look for ‘what’ gives them the maximum happiness. However, experts recommend figuring out ‘how’, the way of living, rather than by ‘what’. By focusing on ‘how’, you can find the common essence of all things you cherish most and therefore determine how you can live to achieve them.

These are the steps experts recommend for finding what you really are:

  1. Define ‘What’ you like to do.

  2. Find out ‘Why’ you like it in depth. (the hardest part! Never give up thinking)

  3. Define 'How' to live with the ‘why’s’ that you found in the previous step.

This is my case:

1. I like … (What)

  A. To work out as intensely as possible — e.g. swim, race, weight training, etc.

  B. To learn foreign languages and travel.

  C. To watch classic films in the drama genre.

2. I like it because … (Why)

  A. It allows me to challenge myself and overcome any hurdles, giving me a reward: both energy and confidence.

  B. It gives me the feeling of transcending reality as I typically get sick of things easily. In this way, I can feel new and refreshed.

  C. It is worth putting in the time as such gives me positive attitudes about life and applicable lessons to learn from.

3. I like … (How)

  A. Something that challenges and gratifies me in reward.

  B. Something that serves as a constant stimulus to push me out of my comfort zone.

  C. Something that can have a positive impact on my life with little effort.

Can you find a common thread across those three things I like?

At glance, the three of them seem totally isolated, but It turns out all of them are telling about me as someone who value a change, challenge and thus leading inner growth.

Through this, I can take actions to juice up my life such as:

A. Getting a job in an evolving industry without tedious, rather challenging and self-motivating tasks: IT industry and business development or a sale job role.

B. Plunging into a new hobby and mastering it!

C. Participate in self-improvement community: gatherings, clubs, supportive networks.

In this way, I can better understand myself and pick up important clues to set my own life plan. Actually after this session, I joined a study group and started the new hobby - learning German! Evidently it helps me to lessen  the helplessness I suffered nowadays. Of course, It is just one simple practice, but you can discover many ‘why’s’ and ‘how’s’ as you develop deeper into it. I hope we can set out on this mission in our whole life until we find and love the ‘real me’.

Good Luck!
